Trudeau was the starting quarterback of the Illinois Fighting Illini football team his sophomore through senior years. As a sophomore, he led the Illini to become the first and only Big Ten team to beat all nine conference opponents in a single season. The Illini went to the 1984 Rose Bowl where they lost to UCLA 45–9. He earned All-Big Ten honors in 1984 and 1985. He set school records in pass attempts (1151), completions (737), yards (8146) and touchdowns (51 ). He set an NCAA record with 215 attempts without an interception. He was the 1984 runner up for Davey O'Brien Award, given to the top college QB in the nation.
During his rookie season he started 11 games and in 1987–1988 he split time with Gary Hogeboom as did Chris Chandler. In 1988–1989 and in 1990–1993 he shared snaps with Jeff George. His best year as a pro came during the 1989 season for the Colts when he threw for 15 touchdowns and was named Colts offensive MVP. Despite some modest success, the fans of Indianapolis never really bonded with Trudeau. During the 1994 season, Trudeau backed up Boomer Esiason and he was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the 1995 NFL Expansion Draft to become the third-string quarterback behind Frank Reich and Kerry Collins.
He is married to wife Lisa, with a daughter Danielle and sons John, Beau, and Trey. His brother Kevin Trudeau was drafted at age 18 as a pitcher for the New York Yankees. Also, after retirement from football, Jack invested to be a co-owner of Wolf Run Golf Club in Indiana. .[1] He now is a weekly guest on The Bob and Tom Show, broadcast out of Indianapolis, and discussing happenings in the NFL, primarily in regards to the Indianapolis Colts.
On June 2, 2007, Trudeau was arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor when he hosted a high school graduation party for his daughter, who was not arrested, but was breathalyzed along with her three younger brothers (none of whom tested positive for any alcohol) . Depositions further prove that some of the graduating students brought concealed alcohol into the party.[2] On August 10, 2007, Trudeau was offered a plea agreement,[3] in which he was to accept responsibility for the party. On December 14, 2007, Trudeau and his wife accepted an agreement where they will each have to pay a $2,500 fine. However, neither of them had to plead guilty to their charges.[4]
He was also arrested for assaulting a police officer and a DUI.
Trudeau went on to host a local sports talk morning show with Zakk Tyler on WNDE AM 1260 in Indianapolis, and in 2011, the show (called Zakk and Jack) was picked up for national syndication by Fox Sports Radio, replacing Stephen A. Smith's program.[5]
Trudeau was involved in a controversial exchange in August 2011 with new Indiana Hoosiers football head coach Kevin Wilson who responded to Trudeau's mocking of Indiana's football team in which Wilson pointed out Trudeau's criminal history.[6]
